The purpose of this project is three-fold. First, this project will create a robust, statewide internship program that helps AGI students gain relevant work experience and on-the-job learning by matching them with farmers, businesses and other organizations. Second, this project will develop a new agribusiness entrepreneurship curriculum. And finally, the project will bolster our student recruitment. This project is necessary for several reasons. Internships help AGI students develop the professional, interpersonal and leadership skills they will need to meet the challenges of an increasing globalized economy. The Agricultural Entrepreneurship concentration in designed to address both the rapidly growing need for new agricultural businesses and enhance existing agricultural business by utilizing new approaches and technologies. Finally, the project will benefit several populations such as: urban and rural farmers, tobacco farmers other businesses and other populations who may not have considered agriculture as a career before such as: veterans, minorities and women.
