NCTTFC Ag Management Program
Commercial farms have expressed need for a business education program focused on the special needs of a southeastern agriculture. This project will develop and implement a pilot program to increase business management competencies in 20-25 NC farms with greater than $1 million in farm receipts. Modules in financial and human resource management, marketing, strategic planning, risk management and succession planning will be taught in workshops in January and December 2017 with other topics such as agricultural outlook included in online intercessions. Curriculum will be taught by faculty from NCSU & ECU. The pilot program will target NC tobacco and sweet potato farms. NC farms with over $1 million in farm receipts produced over $517 million of $732 million in tobacco sales and over 53,000 of 59,000 acres of sweet potatoes harvested in NC in 2012. This pilot will be template for a future program for specialized southeastern agriculture.
