Maxwell Regional Agricultural Convention Center
The center will house the USDA Farm Services Agency, the Soil and Water Conservation District, the Natural Resource and Conservation Services, and the NCSU Cooperative Extension Offices. All of the existing offices are overcrowded, and in a building with considerable age. This will expand the space, giving them a total of 22,661 sf. The estimate for the portion is $6,537,045. On the grounds will also be a farmers market and a greenhouse. There will be a state of the art home demonstration kitchen. These offices are badly needed to provide expert advice for our farmers to be as productive as possible. With the decrease in tobacco acreage, farmers are diversifying into other crops and into livestock and poultry. Attached to the center will be a 38,947 sf convention center. It will provide hospitality industry jobs for unemployed, underemployed and displaced workers.
