“From Bright Leaf to Berkshires” is an alternative swine production course and outreach program that will be held at the N.C. A&T State University Farm. Its goal is to improve profitability of farmers who have been financially impacted by tobacco-related policy and social changes by cost sharing Berkshire pigs using hoop structure barns. Graduates of the program and attendees of the extension workshops will learn about alternative swine production systems, stocking rates, nutrition, reproduction, breeding systems, waste management, welfare/behavior, diseases, and niche marketing opportunities.
