Building Capacity for Farmland Preservation
The NC Foundation for Soil and Water Conservation, in partnerhsip with the Working Lands Trust, will provide a series of trainings to producers, landowners, and soil and water conservation districts on the importance of preserving working lands. Project Partners will collaborate with NC Cooperative Extension and the NC Association for Soil and Water Conservation Districts to offer a three-pronged approach to increase understanding of land transition opportunities and build capacity to support farmland protection programs. The Foundation will lead 6 regional trainings for Conservation District boards on establishing a Farmland Protection Program and 6 workshops for landowners on Land Transition Opportunities. The Working Lands Trust will offer 3 Conservation Easement technical trainings for Conservation District staff. The outcomes will include a greater number of landowners that have a clear path forward to maintaining future land ownership and increased options for protecting of working lands.
